Morning Memo – 2024-02-23
The multiple prosecutions of Donald Trump have me gravely concerned. My concern, however, does not relate to Donald Trump. These mostly baseless prosecutions have much broader implications. I will address only three briefly.
Politics
These legal actions have more of an impact on voters than they do on Donald Trump. Keeping Donald Trump in the courthouse instead of on the campaign trail amounts to an effort to deny voters the right to vote for whomever they choose. I have never seen any evidence that presidential candidates are saintly, but if the voters deem them worthy of their vote, they should have the privilege of exercising their legal voting right.
Economic
Forcing Donald Trump to spend enormous amounts of money defending himself in court denies the market the unknown uses to which he would put that money. The outrageous judgment levied upon Trump in New York disrupts the real estate and investment markets. Politicians should not have the ability to exercise this kind of power unilaterally.
Diversity, Equity, And Inclusion
Enforcing diversity, equity, and inclusion policies represents a lousy idea in government and business. I will address the problems with these policies in future publications, but those who advocate for them harm those they claim to care about.
Having black high profile prosecutors involved in these ill-conceived prosecutions, which have political and economic impacts, does not do much to support the accurate assertion that Blacks can handle positions of authority.
Conclusion
Citizens should rise and eliminate rogue prosecutors who threaten the segments of our system that do work.
